Exhausted of fruit flies buzzing around your kitchen? Once these pesky
insects invade, it may seem impossible to get rid of them. But removing fruit
flies may be easier than you think. Following are some methods of killing fruit
flies which can help you to remove these pests from your kitchen forever!
One of the easiest ways to kill fruit flies involves some typical
household supplies: All you need is a bowl and some dish soap! Whatever kind of
soap you use, it needs to create some really thick soap suds—which is why the
dish soap often works best. Get some soap suds into your bowl, and set it down
on the counter. The flies will land in the soap suds, get caught, and then die.
If you want to make the soap suds more appealing, you can simply add a little
fruit or fruit juice or apple
cider vinegar to the mixture.
Another very reliable method for killing fruit flies is to use a vacuum
cleaner. As absurd as this may sound at first, it is actually very reliable,
and not too difficult. The reason it works is that fruit flies like to mingle
together in concentrated clusters. Your vacuum cleaner will need to be fairly
powerful in order to suck them up, and you will need to have a good filter too.
It's best to use the cleaning attachment if you have one since then you can
direct it into corners and more easily reach the individual flies.
You can even make your vacuum cleaner attractive to fruit flies by
augmenting your vacuum cleaner with bait. For example, you can dip a strip of
paper towel in some wine or apple cider vinegar and then tape it inside the
vacuum tube. Then lie in wait while the flies congregate inside the vacuum
cleaner tube. Once they're inside, you can turn on the vacuum cleaner and they
will be sucked away.
Fruit flies are also killed by Windex. One easy method of killing fruit
flies is to simply spray them with Windex.
If you have a plant that is infested with fruit flies, you can attempt to
purge the fruit fly population by allowing the soil to dry out. This is, of
course, dangerous to your plant, but it may kill the fruit flies, particularly
the larvae. It will also kill your plant if you aren't careful though, so if
you're in any doubt as to your plant's health, water it and try to figure out
something else. You can also try looking for plant-safe insecticides or try to

Insecticides are of course another method of killing
fruit flies. Since insecticides really aren't great for your health
either though, you should probably use them only as a last resort to kill fruit
flies.
